This is the dramatic moment water began seeping through a fence after a water main burst in the middle of the night. Two pieces of CCTV footage have been shared with BirminghamLive by businesses on Coventry Road in Sheldon showing the moment the incident began at around 3am.

Hillman Insurance Brokers and Elmdon Day Nursery were caught up in huge disruption as flooding left a trail of mud and misery in its wake. Commuters faced rush hour delays while some tradespeople had to wait for their driveways to be jetwashed.

Our reporter on the scene said a major clean-up and repair operation was underway after the aqua blast caused damage along the city-bound stretch of the A45. Workers were seen attempting to clear the scene and the incident caused disruption to public transport with some services forced to divert.

Tracey Deol, from the nursery, said: "I got here at 7am and the path was covered in mud. There’s mud in the drive and the gravel has been swept away. I had the drive repaired last week. The water went through to the garden.

“About 55 babies to pre-school were due to come today but we had to phone the parents and tell them there was no water supply. We’ve got about a dozen staff and we are all cleaning up. All the outside play area was covered in mud and the prams got wet, we are drying them out."

Our reporter on the scene added: "A clean up and repair operation is underway on the Coventry Road after a burst water main caused major flooding. The pipe caused damage along the city-bound stretch of the A45 just outside the big Morrisons supermarket.

"The flooding has stopped and workmen are on the scene carrying out repairs. Meanwhile, the road and driveways are covered in sludge and a layer of mud. Traffic is flowing slowly and limited to a single lane past the repair site. The water has caused grass to uproot and there’s mud in places."

A Severn Trent spokesperson said: “We’re really sorry to anyone who was affected by a brief interruption to their water supply this morning caused by a burst water pipe on Coventry Road. Everyone’s water supply is back on as normal after our teams were on site moving water around our network in a different way to quickly get supplies back on for everyone. They’ll now be focusing on fixing the pipe and getting the road and everything else back to normal as quickly as possible."
